After a round of online testing is completed, we then have to take Bailey (our Labrador retriever) to the training school to test his abilities on site. For the past year, we have focused all of our efforts on training our puppy to become a Seeing Eye dog for the blind. Bailey has a lot of energy (as any puppy has) but she is highly intelligent and works with commands effortlessly. Therefore, I feel like after this is all said and done we will be the proud owner of a Seeing Eye dog. The only problem though is that if Bailey aces all of her exams then she will start in the field immediately…which also means we will have to give her up. Over the course of a year you start to grow very attached, so I’m not looking forward to the day she doesn’t come home with us. However, she will make us very proud.
