The results can be summarized to the following highlights:

– The people on the West Coast generally have a high level of information regarding the risk of

flooding. Flood risks are not evaluated to be very high, yet there is some divergence in relation to the risk definition, which Coastal has established that follows the description of a 100-year storm. The risk of flooding of one’s dwelling assessed generally to be higher than the actual risk.

- The risk of flooding are ranked low compared to other risks.

- Respondents evaluate the risk of flooding in different ways. Thus the study found a significant difference in risk perception due to gender and age differences and differences in experience and level of information.

- The risk of flooding can be considered as being both controllable and not controllable. Thus it is not possible to conclusively place the risk of flooding in the set diagram of the Slovic.

- Preferences for reduced flood risk is expressed by a positive willingness to pay for additional protection. It was verified that there is a significant difference in willingness to pay for increased safety guarantee from 200 to make their policies last up to 500 years even.
