Homemade Turmeric Tea Recipe – Tasty, Potent & Very Healthy!
Current research into turmeric spice, and in particular its active compound curcumin, are very exciting indeed! It appears that turmeric does much more than just enhance your curries, stews and spice blends.
But as this is one spice that isn’t normally used every day, how do you get a decent dose?
My favourite way when not using in my curries, is to brew a cup of homemade turmeric tea a couple of times a week. This way I get to experience the preventative, health and well-being benefits of turmeric.
A few of the potential turmeric health benefits include…
- It may have anti-tumor, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties
- A possible treatment for malaria
- It aids digestion and helps fight against infections
- Curcumin may stop the spread of fat tissue
Turmeric Tea Recipe:
Ingredients: (makes two cups)
2 teaspoons ground turmeric powder
Half a teaspoon ground ginger powder
Half a teaspoon ground cinnamon powder
Squeeze of fresh lemon/lime juice
Water (2 cups)
Honey or agave nectar (optional)
Directions:
Add the water to a saucepan with the ground turmeric and slowly heat the water to *boiling point. Turn off the heat and let steep (sit) for 5 – 10 minutes and then pour. If you like you can pour through a tea strainer. If using, add the lemon/lime juice and agave or honey.
*Since boiling may destroy some of the essential oils and therefore some of the turmeric benefits, I don’t over boil the spices.
